Some people take joy in the dirty work of cleaning cars.  They invest several hours a week to keeping their cars and trucks showroom-new.  Some of them take this hobby and convert it into a profession:  they become full or part time car detailers.

There is a lot to consider when choosing to undergo professional car detailing training.

The first upgrade you must make is to add a gas or electric pressure washer to your available tools; they are necessary to professionally prepare a car for detailing.  Tight spots in jambs, engines, and wheels cannot be cleaned without a pressurized washer.

You must also add some cleaning skills that will be asked of a professional. Odor is a common problem. You should do your research (the Net is really a great resource) on ways to permanently eliminate pet odor, food odor, and tobacco odor.

The very best polisher available is the Cyclo dual head polisher--buy one and never look back! With it a detailer can deliver the results of a high speed buffer without the complication or risk of damaging paint. Be sure to buy plenty of pads, compounds, and waxes.

Learning the art of detailing, nonetheless, isn't as crucial as the single most crucial element facing a new business:  sales!

Submit a professionally designed ad as often as possible to craigslist.  You will get plenty of customers to get started. Yahoo and Google are heavily searched resources for automobile detailing goods and providers. Produce a basic web site and optimize it for vital lookup terms in your area.  Have a goal of being on the first page for at least 2 search terms.

Ask your customers for reviews.  Post them on your website; post them to review sites.   Hand out flyers in upscale neighborhoods.

Although car dealers don't pay well, they provide steady business.  They refer to clients, other dealers, auctions, and even rental companies. Befriend vehicle stereo outlets, tint stores, collision repair businesses, and car repair businesses. Automotive businesses get requested for detailing referrals repeatedly, so you should be their first option.

If you buy the right equipment, research and master professional skills, and sell your services aggressively, you will find success and profit in the car detailing industry.

Interesting.

I submit, however, that no power tools are necessary...folks have been detailing cars since before the advent of portable power tools. It just takes a lot more elbow grease.

That said, car detailing makes an EXCELLENT way to make a buck for young teens who are not quite old enough to apply for 'regular' work at any company. My 13-year-old grandson does just this, and can make some very nice "pocket change" --sufficient to buy a video game or parts for his bicycle--with just a weekend's labor. ;-)

EXCELLENT article! This is the second article I have been to since I started searching 2hours ago that actually made any sense, the first one was http://hubpages.com/hub/Automobile-Detailing-How-t (in-case your wondering). I feel confident now that I can detail my car my self this week... Hopefully :) Thanks a ton!
